Chennai: The randomisation process of electronic voting machines (EVM) to allocate the machines to 256 polling booths of RK Nagar constituency had to be postponed owing to technical issues.
According to a polling official, the meeting ended soon after it started. “The EVMs will be allotted to polling booths after randomisation in front of poll observers. But a software issue prevented the officials from logging in to the control units”, the official said.
After postponing the randomisation meeting, the district election officer and Chennai Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan told media persons that the problem was minor and could be rectified. “The meeting will be held later and the EVMs would be allotted to polling booths soon”, he added.
Karthikeyan also said that the vehicles from other districts add to the traffic problem in the constituency and some use vehicles for the election campaign without permission. “The election department has seized 95 such vehicles.
Persons not belonging to R K Nagar constituency are also staying in marriage halls and private lodges. The election department is checking marriage halls and lodges to prevent misconduct during polling”, he added.
In a report, the election department said that 188 election-related complaints have been received till Monday. Of the total 188 complaints, 178 have been rectified, the report added.
